Lending Tree advertises that "when lenders compete, you win". What they *don't* tell you is that Lending Tree actually acts as a broker for the loan itself, and, if it doesn't want your deal, re-sells your private information to 4 other brokers, who re-run your credit over and over. Don't be fooled, they're just a broker...

You also need to understand the difference between the best rate and the best total loan. A loan might have a low interest rate, but you need to check their closing fees and APR, the real number to compare.

Support your local broker shops and small lenders.

Big lenders like LendingTree have more overhead so they have to charge you more in fees to break even.
